VotesMonitor app for iPhone and iPad

The Votesmonitor is a mobile app that sums up or totalizes the number of votes received by candidates and political parties at elections in Nigeria.

The source of input information is the political parties. The political party agents or representatives at each polling unit enter/key into the votesmonitor application, the results from the result sheets received from the independent electoral officer at each polling unit. As a back up the party agents or representatives also scan and upload the polling unit result sheets for digitization and storage in the cloud.

The polling unit result sheets that is issued to the party agents that are used as source of input data is public information as the sheets are also published for public viewing in the independent electoral commission’s web portal immediately after the election.

The app is used to totalize or sum up automatically all submitted polling units results. The number of polling unit depends on the type of election. There may be up to 176000 or more polling units depending on the type of election.

The basic problem the app will solve is the challenge of recieving, collating, and summing up accurately the results from party agents from (up to or more than) 176000 polling units in different parts of the country.

A secondary solution is to scan, digitize, and upload for storage in the cloud the polling unit result sheets for future retrieval and referencing purposes.

The app also provides viewing opportunity of the collated or totalized election results to members of the public.

There is no government involvement in the app, the process, or in the information flow.
